Beverly Goodenough of St. Johnsbury passed away Saturday, Nov. 13, 2010, at the age of 91.
She was born in St. Johnsbury on June 21, 1919, the youngest of six children born to Ashley and Jennie Bean. She was predeceased by her four brothers Maitland, Howard, Russell and Leo Bean, and by a sister Madeline Russo. Her husband Malcolm died Dec. 10, 1964.
Beverly graduated from St. Johnsbury Academy in 1937. She looked forward to the class luncheons that her classmate Alice Blair scheduled throughout the year.
She was highly regarded for her bookkeeping skills and sought after for employment. She began her career at Fairbanks Morse, where she met her husband, Malcolm Goodenough. They were married on Sept. 25, 1948. Her favorite job was at The Corner Garage; she retired in 1986 from Gracie Roofing.
Beverly valued most in life the time spent with family and friends -- particularly her great-grandchildren in her later years. She loved her camp on Martin's Pond in Peacham. She greatly enjoyed reading her mother's poetry and reciting poems about Vermont.
She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, American Legion Auxiliary, Order of Eastern Star, and the St. Johnsbury Country Club.
She is survived by two daughters: Sharon Bernard and husband James of Montpelier and Pamela Goodenough of St. Johnsbury; six grandchildren: Sharon's three children Jessica Bernard of Montpelier, Angela Mongeon of Montpelier, and Ryan Bernard of Warwick, R.I.; Pamela's three children Jennifer Slen of Stowe, Shaun Gracie of Oschatz, Germany, and Shannon Karpinski of Colchester; and 10 great-grandchildren -- Sophia, Noah, Olivia, Leoni, Taylor, Dakota, Kale, Ezra, Emily, and Owen. She is also survived by Malcolm's sister Marlene Carr of California.
